HMC »  TOUR OF THE METROPOLITAN BUILDING

The new Metropolis Administration Building has been reconstructed on the same lot that stood the older building prior to the 1953 earthquakes. The plans were drawn by Mr. Takis Pavlatos, a civil engineer known for his remarkable contribution to the Church and the island. For years he has provided free services for the construction of churches, the bell towers at St. Gerasimos Church and many other projects. The army contributed as well to the construction by giving plenty of the quality materials necessary.

The entrance hall is decorated with an impressive Cross. This is the area that hosts the recent addition of the Internet Office.

The Metropolitan's Office is spacious and simply furnished. Over his office there is an impressive icon of the three Ionian Saints: St. Spyridon of Kerkyra, St. Dionysios of Zakynthos, and, St. Gerasimos of Cephalonia.

The walls are decorated with framed photographs of his benefactors; Archbishops Panteleeimon Papageorgiou of Thessaloniki, Crysostomos Tavladorakis of Pireaus and Serafim of Athens as well as a photograph of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos.

The Administration Offices are spacious and clean. These include the Office of Chancellor, The Secretariat, Information Systems, Accounting and the Office of Marriages. These Offices service the faithful public and the clergy on a number of matters. The Metropolis Administration and the Metropolitan's team is presented elsewhere in these web pages.
Next to the Metropolitan's Office there is an impressive dining room decorated with antiques.

The wooden staircase in the entrance hall leads to the second floor where the Metropolis large Reception Hall, tastefully but otherwise simply furnished, is located. The Hall is used by the Metropolitan to receive officials, the faithful and the clergy on significant holidays and his Name Day. The three adjacent rooms are guest quarters made available to visiting bishops should they wish to use them.

The Metropolitan's quarters are located on the other side and over the Administration Offices and include a living room and 3 bedrooms.

In this short description of the Metropolis Building, it should be noted that the surrounding grounds are quite spacious as well.
